LIVING BY WATER WORKSHOP AT LAC PELLETIER
June 23-25, 2002

Kim Epp from the Living By Water Project giving a slide show for workshop participants

Participants spent the afternoon in the field looking at and learning about shorelines.

Report on the workshop as told by Glenn Bratvold:
The Living By Water workshop was coordinated by Kim Epp of Nature Saskatchewan and conducted by Dennis Lawson, a retired engineer. On Sunday June 23rd, 24 participants learned about lake topography, history and the upcoming workshop sessions.
On Monday, June 24th, there were 14 participants for a day long session discussing the proper way to develop a shoreline (within the context of maintaining a healthy shoreline and good water quality in the lake). Participants toured three yards at the Heritage subdivision and four yards at Blanke’s Beach. The inspections were all very interesting - especially for those participants who had not started development.

On Tuesday, June 25th, there were 6 participants learning how to conduct an assessment. The group inspected properties at the North end of the lake. The group came away with a new appreciation for all of the components of the watershed (including wells etc.). Overall the workshop series was very well received and several participants have stated that they would like the workshop series to be offered next summer. Several of the participants from the training day are interested in performing assessments out at the lake, so if you are interested in a Homesite Assessment for your cabin, please let Cher know. Also, SCCWS members can access the information from the workshop in written format.
